Meet Our Founder, Isobel Ridley: The Story Behind Lavender Hill Clothing
Isobel Ridley founded Lavender Hill Clothing in 2013. This is a short introduction to her and to how the brand works.
Who are Lavender Hill Clothing?
Lavender Hill is an independent British women's clothing brand. The idea is simple: to make good basics for every woman's wardrobe, in a range of shapes, lengths and fits, because no two women are the same.
About our founder
Isobel trained at Burberry in London before starting Lavender Hill. She set the brand up to offer well-made everyday essentials for women, and she still runs it today.
Where our clothes are designed and made
- Our clothes are designed in Britain.
- Most of our t-shirts are made in Portugal, as is our nightwear.
- Our leggings are made in the UK and Portugal.
- Our socks are made in the UK, and our cashmere is made in the UK (in Scotland).
- Our alpaca pieces are made in Peru.
Our Portuguese factory is led by a mother-daughter team and employs over 70 women.
What our clothes are made from
We work with cotton (including Supima cotton in selected pieces), TENCEL™ Modal and TENCEL™ Lyocell, linen, merino, cashmere and alpaca, with silk in a few pieces. Each product page lists the fabric, so you can see exactly what you are buying. Modal, which is a cellulose fibre made from beech wood pulp, is the fabric at the heart of many of our t-shirts and nightwear.
What makes our clothing different?
Our focus is on fit, fabric and finish. We like soft, comfortable fabrics, simple cuts that suit many body shapes, and pieces that work together, so that you can build outfits from what you already own. Our parcels include a Thrift+ bag, which you can use when you clear out clothes you no longer wear.
