Unveiling The Best Women's T-Shirts: Find Your Fit
A good T-shirt is the piece most of us wear more than anything else. This guide covers how to choose the right fit, which fabrics and cuts suit different uses, how to style a tee, and how to look after it so it lasts.
Start with fit
A tee that is too tight or too loose tends to get left in the drawer. Decide first how you want it to sit: close to the body, relaxed, cropped or boxy. Then check the measurements rather than relying on your usual size, because cuts vary a lot between styles. Our find the perfect T-shirt quiz is a quick way to narrow down a shape, and the size guide has the measurements.
About Lavender Hill T-shirts
Lavender Hill is an independent British brand, founded in 2013 by Isobel Ridley, who trained at Burberry in London. Our clothes are designed in Britain, and most of our T-shirts are made in Portugal. The factory is led by a mother-daughter team and employs over 70 women.
Our T-shirts are made from cotton, including Supima cotton in selected pieces, and from TENCEL™ Modal blends. Supima is a type of long-staple American Pima cotton. Longer fibres generally give a smoother, softer fabric that holds its shape well. TENCEL™ Modal is a soft, smooth fibre made from beech wood pulp, often blended with cotton for drape. Details such as the sleeve opening and the ribbed crew neck are there to help the tee sit neatly.
Choosing the right style
The classic white tee
A white tee works with almost everything. Wear it with jeans, tuck it into tailored trousers, or layer it under a blazer. Navy bottoms are a clean, classic pairing. Look at the short sleeve crew neck cotton modal blend tee for a crew neck, or the scoop neck cotton modal blend tee for a more fitted shape. Our white T-shirt guide has more on building outfits around white.
Relaxed and baby tees
Relaxed fit tees are roomier and easy to wear around the house or on errands. The baby tee is shorter and slimmer, and sits well with high-waisted bottoms. Browse the relaxed fit T-shirts.
Cropped and boxy
Cropped tees show off the waistline and suit high-waisted jeans and skirts. Boxy tees have a looser, 90s feel and work with jeans or shorts. Both can be dressed up or down.
Sleeve lengths
We make short sleeve and long sleeve styles, plus long sleeve cotton tops and sleeveless tops. Long sleeves are useful for layering in cooler months.
How to style a T-shirt
- Casual: jeans and trainers, the simplest combination for errands or coffee.
- Smarter: a blazer and trousers for the office. Tuck the tee in and keep the colours simple.
- Relaxed: leggings with a knit cardigan or jumper for an easy evening in.
- Proportions: tuck into a high-waisted skirt, or wear loose over wide-leg trousers.
- Accessories: necklaces, earrings, bracelets, scarves or belts change the look quickly. A scarf is an easy place to start.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose the right size?
Take your measurements and compare them with the size guide. If you want a looser fit, consider sizing up; for a closer fit, stay true to size or size down. Think about your bust measurement too, as it affects how a tee hangs.
How do I make a T-shirt last longer?
- Follow the care label.
- Treat stains straight away.
- Wash at a low temperature and avoid bleach.
- Dry away from direct sunlight to limit fading.
- Iron on a low heat if needed.
Which fabrics do you use?
Our tees are made from cotton (including Supima in selected pieces) and TENCEL™ Modal blends, with a little elastane in some styles for stretch. We also make pieces in linen, merino and other fibres; check each product page for the fabric.
What if I need help or want to return something?
