Article: What Ethical Clothing Means

The Facts: Ethical Clothing

What Ethical Clothing Means

Ethical clothing is a broad term. In simple terms, it refers to how clothes are designed and made, and in particular how the people who make them are treated.

What the term can cover

  • Working conditions: safe workplaces, regular hours and no child or forced labour.
  • Pay: workers being paid fairly for their work.
  • Materials: where fibres come from and how they are produced.
  • Transparency: a brand being open about where its clothes are made.

The price of clothing

Very low prices can leave little room for fair pay and safe conditions, although a higher price does not guarantee either. The most useful thing a brand can do is say plainly where its clothes are made.

Where we make ours

Our clothes are made in the UK and Portugal. Most of our t-shirts are made in Portugal, and our socks and cashmere are made in the UK. Read more on our fabrics and production page.
