The Benefits of Natural Fabrics in Hot Weather

When the temperature rises, the fabric matters as much as the style. Natural fibres such as cotton, linen and modal are popular for hot weather because they are comfortable and breathe well. This guide explains how each one behaves and how to choose.

Why natural fabrics suit hot weather

Many synthetic fabrics, such as polyester, can trap heat and sweat against the skin. Natural and plant-based fibres generally let more air circulate and absorb moisture, so they tend to feel cooler and less clingy. The weave or knit and the fit matter too, so a loose, lightweight garment in any breathable fibre will usually feel better than a close-fitting heavy one.

1. Breathability

Cotton, linen and modal are all breathable. Heat and moisture escape more easily, which helps you stay comfortable from beach days to city walks. Browse our cotton T-shirts and linen T-shirts for lightweight options.

2. Moisture and drying

Cotton and linen absorb moisture, and linen dries relatively quickly. Modal is a smooth, soft fibre made from beech wood pulp, and we use TENCEL™ Modal in some of our tops, such as the scoop neck cotton modal blend tee. See the summer wardrobe collection for more.

3. Feel on the skin

Soft, smooth fabrics are comfortable in the heat when skin is sweaty. Cotton and modal are usually soft, while linen feels crisper and softens with washing. Everyone's preference differs, so try a few and see which you reach for.

4. Lasting wear

Fabrics that wash well and keep their shape are worth more per wear. Follow the care label, wash at low temperatures and dry in the shade.

Final thoughts

For hot weather, choose lightweight natural fibres in loose, simple shapes. Whether you want T-shirts, summer dresses or loungewear, check the fabric on each product page. Our hot weather collection brings together breathable pieces for warm days.
