Why We Love Cotton

Why We Love Cotton

Cotton is one of the most widely worn fibres for t-shirts and everyday basics. We use cotton, including Supima cotton in selected pieces, alongside TENCEL™ Modal and TENCEL™ Lyocell, linen, merino, cashmere and alpaca. This is a short guide to what cotton is and how to look after it.

About cotton

It is a natural fibre

Unlike synthetic fibres, cotton is a plant fibre. It is separated from the seeds, cleaned and spun into yarn, which is then knitted or woven into fabric.

It is breathable and absorbent

Cotton lets air through and absorbs moisture, which is why it is common in t-shirts, underwear and towels.

It is soft and comfortable

Cotton is often soft, and knitted cotton has some natural stretch, which makes it a comfortable everyday fabric.

It is durable

Cotton is a hard-wearing fibre and, unlike some fibres, it is stronger when wet, so it copes well with regular washing.

It is easy to care for

Follow the care label on each garment. We usually recommend washing at 30 degrees. Ironing can often be avoided for items such as t-shirts if you dry them flat.
