How to Choose Quality Clothing

Fast fashion has made it easy to buy a lot of clothing cheaply. Choosing fewer, better pieces that last is one of the simplest ways to get more wear from your wardrobe.

What to look for

  • Fibre content: check the label. Natural and plant-based fibres such as cotton, linen, wool, cashmere and TENCEL™ Modal each behave differently and suit different uses.
  • Construction: look for even stitching, finished seams and fabric that keeps its shape.
  • Origin: a brand should be able to tell you where its clothes are made.
  • Care: follow the care label. Washing at lower temperatures and air drying help clothes last longer.

What we use

At Lavender Hill we make our clothes in the UK and Portugal. Our fabrics include TENCEL™ Modal, cotton, linen, merino wool, cashmere and alpaca. See our fabrics and production page for more.
